Blackhawks sign Alex DeBrincat to 3-year, $19.2 million extension

The Blackhawks signed Alex DeBrincat to a three-year contract extension worth $19.2 million Thursday. The deal runs through the 2022-23 campaign.

DeBrincat was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2019-20 season. The 21-year-old followed up his 28-goal rookie season with 41 goals during his sophomore season in 2018-19. Chicago selected him in the second round (39th overall) of the 2016 NHL draft.

DeBrincat’s new deal makes him the fourth-highest paid Blackhawks player behind forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews ($10.5 million) and defenseman Brent Seabrook ($6.875 million). Kane and Toews’ deals will end at the same time as DeBrincat’s, while Seabrook will have one year remaining.

Contract breakdown

Year 1: $5.1M ($4M signing bonus)

Year 2: $5.1M (all salary)

Year 3: $9M (all salary)
