Blackhawks 2021 schedule released: season opens Jan. 13 at Lightning

The Blackhawks will open the abbreviated 2021 season at the home of the defending Stanley Cup champions.

On Jan. 13, Chicago will travel south for a game in Tampa Bay against the Lightning, fresh off that team’s 2020 Stanley Cup Final win over the Stars.

From there, the Blackhawks will continue its tour of the Central Division, facing each of its seven opponents eight times during the 56-game 2021 regular season.

After facing Tampa twice to open the season, Chicago will remain in Florida for two games against former head coach Joel Quenneville and the Panthers on Sunday, Jan. 17 and Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Chicago then returns home for its first games at the United Center: Friday, Jan. 22 against the Red Wings with a rematch two days later on Jan. 24. The regular season ends on Saturday, May 8 against the defending Western Conference champion Stars.

In an effort to minimize travel during the pandemic, the schedule is grouped into blocks of back-to-back games against other teams in the Central Division, although there is one three-game homestand with Tampa in early March.
