Joel Quenneville, who led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships during the 2010s, was named the NHL’s coach of the decade Thursday by NHL.com and NHL.com international staff members.
Quenneville helped Chicago end its 49-year title drought in 2010 then won two more championships in 2013 during a lockout-shortened season and again in a full season in 2015. He also achieved two major coaching milestones with Chicago, passing the late Al Arbour, each time. He became the second winningest NHL coach with 890 victories, when the Blackhawks defeated the Canadiens 2-1 on Jan. 14, 2016 in Montreal, and coached the second most games in League history with his 1,608th game in Chicago’s 7-4 loss to the Bruins on March 10, 2018.
After being fired by Chicago on Nov. 6, 2018, Quenneville was hired by the Panthers on April 8, 2019. He then earned his 900th career victory in Florida’s 4-3 home win against the Rangers.
