Blackhawks sign Brandon Davidson to 1-year, $650,000 contract

On Thursday morning, the Chicago Blackhawks announced that they have signed defenseman Brandon Davidson to a one-year, $650,000 contract.

Davidson, 27, was invited to training camp on a professional tryout, and the 6-foot-2, 208-pound blue-liner impressed the Blackhawks staff enough to earn a contract. He appeared in three preseason games, tallying one assist.

Davidson was originally a sixth-round draft pick (162nd overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Draft and debuted with the team during the 2014-15 NHL season. Over the last four years, Davidson has appeared in 152 games with the Oilers, the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders, amassing nine goals and 13 assists with a career average of 17:13 of ice time per night.

Adding Davidson to the roster, combined with the assignment of Adam Boqvist to the NHL on Wednesday, gives the Blackhawks what appears to be the seven defensemen who will be on the roster for opening night: Davidson, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Jan Rutta, Erik Gustafsson, Henry Jokiharju and Brandon Manning.
