Blackhawks officially sign prospect Dominik Kubalik to 1-year, $925,000 contract

The Blackhawks officially signed prospect Dominik Kubalik to a one-year contract worth $925,000 on Wednesday.

Igor Eronko of Sport-Express first reported the news.

Chicago acquired the 23-year-old Kubalik in a trade with the Kings in January for a fifth-round draft pick in this year’s NHL draft. Los Angeles drafted him in the seventh round in 2013, and offered him a contract as recently as October 2017 but he never signed it.

The 6-foot-2, 179-pound winger finished out the remainder of this past season with HC Ambrì-Piotta in Switzerland, where he led the National League in scoring with 57 points (25 goals, 32 assists) in 50 games.

Kubalik joined the Czech Republic men’s national team for the World Championship after his season. His 12 points in 10 tournament games ranked third on the team to Calgary’s Michael Frolik (14 points) and Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek (16 points). Kubalik’s six goals were one shy of Frolik’s team-high total.

Kubalik played with Blackhawks winger Dominik Kahun in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves from 2012-14. Chicago general manager Stan Bowman expects Kubalik to play in the NHL next season in a top-nine forward role.
