Blackhawks TV analyst Eddie Olczyk announces he’s cancer-free

The Blackhawks’ color analyst made the announcement during the first intermission of Thursday’s game.

Chicago Blackhawks television analyst Eddie Olczyk is cancer-free.

The announcement came during the first intermission of Thursday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, as Olczyk appeared alongside his longtime broadcast partner and close friend Pat Foley.

Here’s the video of the announcement:

Last August, Olcyzk released a statement through the team announcing that he’d been diagnosed with colon cancer. Treatment started soon after, keeping Olczyk away from the Blackhawks broadcasts on WGN and NBC Sports Chicago as well as his national broadcast duties with the NBC Sports Network. Olczyk has appeared on broadcasts at times throughout the season as his health allowed, and later said that he’d be getting back to more of his NBCSN duties following the cancer-free diagnosis.

The news brought a tidal wave of support from those in Chicago and throughout the hockey world.
