Watch: Time-lapse video shows Blackhawks have ice back at Fifth Third Arena

The Blackhawks took another step toward returning to play by installing ice at Fifth Third Arena, the team’s community ice rink. The team posted a video of ice being installed for one of the two rinks in the building at 1801 W. Jackson Blvd.

The NHL has allowed players to participate in small voluntary workouts of no more than six players and a limited amount of team personnel since Monday as part of Phase 2 in the League’s Return to Play plan. Blackhawks forwards Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Alex Nylander and goaltender Malcolm Subban returned to Fifth Third Arena on Wednesday. The NHL is expecting teams will be able to start training camps in mid-July.

The Blackhawks, the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference, are slated to play a best-of-five qualifying round series against the No. 5 Oilers at one of two to-be-determined hub cities in the League’s 24-team return-to-play format. Chicago is also among 10 cities under considerations to be a hub city.
