Blackhawks defensemen Calvin de Haan and Brent Seabrook are out for the season after having right shoulder surgery Friday, but are both expected to be ready for training camp in 2020, according to coach Jeremy Colliton. The Blackhawks placed both players on long-term injured reserve Thursday.
Seabrook, who turns 35 in April, will also have surgery on his right hip in early January and left hip in early February. He has four points (three goals, one assist) in 32 games this season and 464 points (103 goals, 361 assists) in 1,114 games in 15 seasons with Chicago.
Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry said Friday in a statement that both surgeries “went well,” and de Haan’s anticipated return is four-to-five months while Seabrook’s will be determined after his left hip surgery.
De Haan, who will be 29 next May, has six points (one goal, five assists) in 29 games in his first season with Chicago. He re-injured his right shoulder Dec. 10 against the Golden Knights in Las Vegas. He has 101 points (14 goals, 87 assists) in 407 games during his eight seasons with the Islanders, Hurricanes and Blackhawks.
Seabrook has five years remaining on his contract worth $6.875 million annually and a full no-movement clause until 2022 when it shifts to a modified no-trade clause of five teams then a 10-team NTC in the final year. De Haan has three years left on his deal worth $4.55 million per season.
