Blackhawks’ Jeff Glass nominated for Masterton Trophy

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Jeff Glass received the Chicago chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association nomination for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy on Monday. All 31 chapters nominate a player, and the winner is then voted on by the PHWA at large.

The Masterton Trophy is given annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Glass finally reached NHL at age 32 after playing seven years in the KHL in Russia. In his NHL debut, he made 42 saves in a Blackhawks’ overtime win at Edmonton then made 35 stops two days later in his hometown of Calgary. In all, he went 3-6-3 in 14 games (12 starts) with an .898 save percentage and 3.31 goals-against average before being sent down to AHL Rockford on Feb. 15.

Bryan Berard (2003-04) and Pit Martin (1969-70) are the only two Chicago players to win the award. The Masterton winner will be announced with the other NHL awards in June.
