The Blackhawks are interested in signing unrestricted free agent Corey Perry, reports Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic. LeBrun also says there’s mutual interest between Perry and the Predators.
The 34-year-old Perry became a UFA after the Ducks bought out his contract Wednesday that would’ve cost them $8.625 million each of the next two years from his eight-year, $69 million deal signed in 2013. The right winger had 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 31 games this past season after missing the first four months following surgeries to repair injuries to the MCL and meniscus in his right knee.
Perry scored at least 30 goals six times in 14 seasons with Anaheim, but hasn’t reached the mark since the 2015-16 season. He scored a career-high 50 goals during the 2010-11 season to win the Rocket Richard Trophy as the league’s top goal scorer and Hart Trophy as MVP. The 2003 first-round pick was a franchise player for the Ducks and won the Stanley Cup with the team in 2007.
LeBrun notes there will be “several suitors” for Perry’s service that will come on a “cheap on a one-year, bonus-laden deal.”
If signed, Perry could slot into a second- or third-line role for the Blackhawks.
