The No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft spent the 2024-25 season at North Dakota, where he was one of the top freshman in college hockey with 32 points (18 G, 14 A) in 37 games. North Dakota fired its coach after that season, though, leading Boisvert to transfer to Boston University for this hockey season, where things did not go as planned. Injuries affected him during the first half of the season and the second half of the season featured a two-game suspension for Boisvert after he emerged from the penalty box following coincidental roughing minors and dropped the gloves for a fight with UMass Lowell’s Connor Eddy.
Most recently, eyebrows were raised when Boisvert was not in the lineup for Boston’s conference playoff game against Vermont on Wednesday night, reportedly due to missing a team workout. BU won that game to extend its season and Boisvert was in the lineup for Saturday’s game against UConn, which Boston lost to end its season. Boisvert finished his sophomore season with 17 points (3 G, 14 A) in 26 games.
The Blackhawks will practice later on Tuesday morning, and questions about Boisvert’s availability for Tuesday’s home game against the Wild will almost certainly be part of the post-practice discussion, although some early reporting suggests visa issues may affect Boisvert’s ability to debut on his 20th birthday.
Below is a deep dive on everything Boisvert brings to the table, based on projections soon after Chicago selected him in the 2024 NHL Draft.
