The Blackhawks lost for the 10th time in their last 11 games in a 3-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night at the United Center.
Travis Sanheim put the visitors on the board with this goal six minutes into the game:
That Flyers’ lead lasted all of 77 seconds, as Colin Blackwell knotted the game up at one with this nifty solo effort from an odd-man rush:
Early in the second period, the Flyers took a lead that they would not relinquish when Travis Konecny skated around a pylon on skates Jarred Tinordi for this goal:
Garnet Hathaway added some extra insurance with this goal about nine minutes later:
Philadelphia mostly stifled the Hawks from there, allowing just seven shots on goal from the home team in the final period while skating to the 3-1 win.
Before we close out this part of the recap, though, let’s watch Bedard do some cool things:
OK, on to the rest.
Notes
- Petr Mrazek has 13 wins this season. Chicago has 15. Could’ve easily been convinced that Mrazek has every Blackhawks win this season.
- Not the worst game from Soderblom, though, who was certainly under siege in the second period as the Flyers seemed hellbent on putting this game away by the second intermission. Likely not the best angle on the Konecny goal and he also could’ve done better with the rebound that ultimately became Hathaway’s goal. Fixing those little issues, though, is how Soderblom goes from a possible NHL goalie to a proven one.
- An underrated part of that Blackwell goal was how well he positioned the puck to keep it away from the diving defenseman, with Blackwell’s skate ultimately being what prevented the poke check from being successful before the goal. Not an easy feat to pull off when moving at that pace.
- The Konecny goal is all the evidence that needs to be presented when discussions come up this season on whether or not Tinordi should be brought back for another season.
- This seems like it could be a fun thing to watch down the road when this duo has three capable forwards skating in front of them:
- Another loss. Ho hum. Sorta feels like we’re counting down until the end of the season once again, doesn’t it? Just 25 to go!
- Yes, he was calling you slow.
