Blackhawks recall Adam Boqvist from Rockford IceHogs in AHL

The Blackhawks recalled their top defenseman prospect Adam Boqvist from the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL on Thursday.

Boqvist, the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft, scored his first professional goal in his sixth game of the season during Rockford’s 6-2 home win over San Antonio on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old’s goal snapped the IceHogs’ 0-for-29 start to the season on the man advantage.

Boqvist, a right-handed shot, is known as an offensive-minded blue liner with strong skating skills and a quick wrister. He scored 20 goals and 60 points in 54 regular-season games last season with the London Knights in the OHL. The 6-foot, 181-pounder added 10 goals and 13 points in 11 playoff games.

Boqvist is a slide candidate, so his entry-level contract won’t start until the 2020-21 season if the Blackhawks have him play in nine or fewer NHL games.

Chicago did not announce a corresponding move since they have 22 players on their roster with Connor Murphy (groin) on long-term injured reserve until at least Nov. 16. The IceHogs, however, did recall right-handed defenseman Jack Ramsey from the Indy Fuel in the ECHL. Ramsey, who made the transition from forward to defensemen this offseason, has two assists in six games for Indy this season. He joined Indy last season after his senior season at Minnesota and had one goal in four ECHL games.
