Blackhawks recall Dennis Gilbert from AHL

The Blackhawks recalled defenseman Dennis Gilbert from the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL on Wednesday morning.

Gilbert did not register a point in his previous three NHL games this season in October, and has two assists in 11 AHL games. The physical 6-foot-2, 198-pounder will give Chicago an extra blue liner for its two-game road trip out east with veteran Duncan Keith (groin) not making the trip.

The Blackhawks, who have lost three straight, will likely send forward Anton Wedin down to the AHL if forward Drake Caggiula (concussion) is activated off long-term injured reserve Thursday when Caggiula is eligible. Wedin has skated in two games this past week in a bottom-six role since he was brought up.

Chicago visits the Bruins on Thursday in Boston then plays the Devils on Friday in New Jersey. The IceHogs, who have won three straight, have a back-to-back Friday and Saturday, with a trip to Grand Rapids followed by a home game against Milwaukee.
