Blackhawks re-sign David Kampf to 2-year, $2 million contract

The Blackhawks signed unrestricted free agent forward David Kampf to a two-year contract worth $1 million per season, the team announced Monday.

Kampf was a full-time NHL starter last season, with 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) in 63 games for the Blackhawks. He became a UFA when the team did not give him a qualifying offer.

The 24-year-old missed a month of action from Feb. 5 to March 7 with a broken bone in his right foot after blocking a shot in a game against Edmonton. He tallied one goal and two assists in 13 games once he returned. He’s expected to play a bottom-six role again next season.

Kampf is the second signing of the day for the Blackhawks, who also inked depth center Ryan Carpenter to a three-year contract worth $3 million. Chicago has 10 forwards signed and 20 roster spots accounted for with $6.036 million in salary cap space, according to Cap Friendly.
