The Blackhawks signed pending restricted free agents John Quenneville and Dylan Sikura to two-year extensions, the team announced Friday.
The contracts are one two-way deals next season ($700,000 NHL/$250,000 AHL) and one-way deals for the 2020-21 season ($800,000).
Chicago acquired the 23-year-old Quenneville from the Devils last Saturday in exchange for forward John Hayden. Quenneville — the first cousin once removed of former Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville — had one goal in 19 NHL games last season and 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists) in 37 AHL contests. The younger Quenneville will need to pass through waivers to be assigned to the AHL next season.
Sikura, a 2014 sixth-round pick by Chicago, had eight assists in 33 NHL games last season but couldn’t find the back of the net during two call ups. The 24-year-old was a major contributor for the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, with 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 46 games. He does not have to be put on waivers to be assigned to Rockford.
Both players will likely compete for bottom-six roles during training camp.
Winger Bredan Perlini, who is reportedly discussing a new contract with the team, is the team’s lone RFA yet to re-sign. Evolving Hockey projects his next deal will be a two-year contract with a $2,056,017 cap hit.
Center David Kampf was not extended a qualifying offer and is now classified as an unrestricted free agent. He’s also reportedly in contract talks, and is projected to net a two-year contract with a $1,169,651 cap hit.
