Blackhawks sign Ryan Carpenter to 3-year, $3 million contract

The Blackhawks signed free agent forward Ryan Carpenter to a three-year contract with a $1 million annual salary cap hit, the team announced Monday.

Carpenter scored five goals and a career-high 18 points in 68 games last season for the Golden Knights. The right-handed shot forward had a 52.6 faceoff winning percentage and played a role on the penalty kill with 1:15 of shorthanded ice time per game. He also was 53.1 percent high-danger chances at 5-on-5, per Natural Stat Trick.

The 28-year-old from Orlando, Florida, was a healthy scratch in the playoffs, but had five assists in 17 postseason games for Vegas during their 2018 run to the Stanley Cup Final. He is expected to play in a bottom-six role for the Blackhawks.

Carpenter has 16 goals and 37 points in 132 NHL games with the Sharks and Golden Knights since signing with San Jose as an undrafted free agent after his junior season at Bowling Green in 2014.
