Could Ottawa be interested in Trevor Daley?

Despite being in second in their division, the Ottawa Senators aren’t happy. Their defence has not been up to par; players expected to be better than they are are not performing. They’re near the bottom of the league in possession, and know they need to upgrade.

Someone they may be looking at? According to Bruce Garrioch, the Chicago Blackhawks‘ very own Trevor Daley, who came over in the Patrick Sharp trade. Daley is a 55.83% positive possession player, albeit through the benefit of some very, very generous offensive zone starts.

Still, if the Sens are a-knockin’, and the Hawks are receptive to the idea

Who would Chicago want for Daley? The asking price appears to be a second round pick, and one of Matt Puempel or Shane Prince. They’re both left-wingers in their early 20s just breaking into the NHL, which means two things: they have potential, and they’re very, very cheap on the cap.

That for an established – albeit struggling – NHL defender? If Ottawa is serious, that’s a fit for Chicago: getting a couple of low-cost assets in return for sorting out the cap issues, if nothing else, would be a good deal.
