The Blackhawks granted Brendan Perlini’s wish Monday and traded him to the Red Wings in exchange for right-handed defenseman Alec Regula. Pierre LeBrun of TSN first reported the news.
Perlini recorded one shot on goal in 7:49 minutes in his only game this season back on Oct. 12 against the Jets after he re-signed with the Blackhawks on a one-year deal worth $874,125 in September.
Perlini scored 12 goals and 15 points in 46 games with Chicago last season after being acquired with Dylan Strome last November from the Coyotes in exchange for Nick Schmaltz in a deal involving three former first-round picks.
Regula, a 2018 third-round pick, has four goals and 11 points in 10 OHL games this season with the London Knights after missing Detroit’s development camp and the World Junior Summer Showcase in July with a left knee injury. The 19-year-old American suffered the injury (no structural issues) during a training session with the Grand Rapids Griffins on an AHL tryout agreement in the spring, according to Arthur Regner of DetroitRedWings.com.
Regula was teammates with Chicago defenseman prospect Adam Boqvist (2018 first-rounder) last season with the Knights. Prior to joining London, the 6-foot-4 and 205-pound Regula helped the Chicago Steel win the 2017 Clark Cup championship.
Regula is not signed to an entry-level contract and the Blackhawks must sign him by June 1, 2020, to retain him.

The mobile, two-way blue liner will remain with London as a co-captain alongside Blue Jackets prospect forward Liam Foudy, giving the Blackhawks four prospects in the Canadian Hockey League: goaltender Alexis Gravel (QMJHL Halifax), defenseman Cole Moberg (WHL Prince George), winger Michal Teply (WHL Winnipeg) and Regula.
The Blackhawks and Red Wings, two former Western Conference rivals, will play each other twice this season: Jan. 5 in Chicago and March 6 in Detroit.
