How to watch the NHL expansion draft, NHL Awards show
Vegas will announce its expansion draft picks during the awards show.
The NHL rosters are going to look a lot different after Wednesday.
The Vegas Golden Knights will announce their expansion draft picks Wednesday at the NHL awards after submitting their selections to the NHL by 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Vegas and the Chicago Blackhawks reportedly already have a deal in place for the expansion draft involving forward Marcus Kruger and defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk. It’s unclear what the parameters of the deal are, but it appears Kruger and van Riemsdyk will be members of the Golden Knights. One of them will be Vegas’ expansion pick, while the other will be part of a trade. The return for either player will likely be draft picks.
Vegas has to choose 30 players, including one from each team, and must select a minimum of 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies from lists of unprotected players. The Golden Knights must reach a salary floor with their selections. Their overall salary must be between 60 and 100 percent of last season's salary cap of $73 million.
The awards show will recognize the top players throughout the past season. Here are the nominees:
