IceHogs Take Down Admirals With A Big 1st Period

The IceHogs used a big 1st period to grab a much needed 2 points over the Milwaukee Admirals last night. In fact, all the game’s scoring occurred in the opening frame. The Admirals struck first when Jusso Puustinen scored his 3rd goal of the year just 2:51 into the game.

Brandon Pirri tied the game up, at 5:54, with his 9th goal of the year. Pirri jumped on the loose puck after Phillip Paradis’ initial shot was blocked. Wade Brookbank was credited with the secondary assist on the goal.

Three minutes later Andrew Shaw tipped in a great cross ice pass from Peter LeBlanc for his 7th goal of the year. Brandon Bollig also assisted on the eventual game winning goal.

The Hogs got an insurance goal when Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg misplayed a Rockford dump in behind the net. Jeremy Morin was “Johnny on the spot” and was able to cash in for his 10th goal of the year at 14:44. Martin St. Pierre and Ryan Stanton assisted on the game’s final goal. Hellberg was replaced by Jeremy Smith after the 1st period. Smith, the Admirals number one goalie, stopped all 19 shots he faced.

Carter Hutton stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced to earn his 10th victory of the year. The effort got Hutton 1st star of the game honors on his 27th birthday. The IceHogs gave Milwaukee four power play chances and killed off all of them. Rockford only had one chance on the power play, late in the 1st period, and was unable to score.

These two teams will meet again tomorrow night in Milwaukee before the IceHogs return home for Stan Mikita night on Saturday versus the Abbotsford Heat.
