Blackhawks reassign Jeff Glass to AHL Rockford as Scott Darling nears return

The Chicago Blackhawks reassigned goaltender Jeff Glass to AHL Rockford on Sunday, the team announced. The move was made after the Blackhawks’ 4-2 victory over the Wild in the afternoon.

Glass was serving as the backup to Corey Crawford in that game against Minnesota, but it appears Scott Darling is almost ready to return. He’s been sitting out lately with an injury, which required the Hawks to bring up Glass from the AHL in order to be the No. 2 goalie.

The Hawks never had to use Glass, who recently signed an NHL deal with the team, because Crawford started every game while Darling was injured. On Sunday, coach Joel Quenneville said Darling would travel for the Canadian road trip, and now it appears he’s in line to backup Crawford on Tuesday in Montreal.

Back in Rockford, Glass has a .911 save percentage and 2.54 goals allowed average in 15 appearances this season. Both of those numbers lead the team over Lars Johansson, Mac Carruth, and Jake Hildebrand, the other three netminders to suit up for the IceHogs in 2016-17.
