Watch: Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews scores on penalty shot vs. Coyotes for 30th goal of season

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews scored his 30th goal of the season on a penalty shot in the second period against the Coyotes on Monday at the United Center.

Toews was awarded the penalty shot after he was slashed by Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun on a breakaway. Toews beat Calvin Pickard five-hole to reach the 30-goal mark for the first time since the 2010-11 season, when he scored 32 goals.

Chicago is now 1-1 on penalty shots this season as Brendan Perlini was denied by Minnesota’s Alex Stalock on Feb. 2. Toews’ goal was the first successful penalty shot for the Blackhawks since Nov. 4, 2015, when Andrew Shaw beat Blues goaltender Brian Elliott.

Toews improved to 3-1 in his NHL career on penalty shots:

March 20, 2009: vs. Dwayne Roloson (Oilers)

Dec. 30, 2011: vs. Jimmy Howard (Red Wings)

Feb. 16, 2012: vs. Martin Biron (Rangers)

March 11, 2019: vs. Calvin Pickard (Coyotes)
