Jonathan Toews to wear Team USA gear after losing World Juniors bet to Patrick Kane

UPDATE: He did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***

Patrick Kane is an American, and Jonathan Toews is a Canadian, so naturally they had their eyes on the World Juniors gold medal game between Team USA and Canada on Thursday. The Americans came away with a shootout win, and now we know there was even more than a gold medal on the line.

Because of Canada’s defeat, Toews will be forced to don some Team USA gear after losing a friendly wager with Kane:

This isn’t exactly a hard confirmation, but Toews had said before the WJC final that he had a bet on the game with Kane, who also won $500 from Artemi Panarin thanks to Team USA’s great showing at the tournament.

It appears Toews and Kane might’ve gotten their inspiration from NBA superstars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade for their bet. Before the 2016 World Series between the Cubs and Indians, James, an Ohio native, and Wade, a Chicago native, bet on their respective hometown teams.

The Cubs came away with their first title in 108 years, so LeBron made good on the bet by showing up to a game in early December wearing a complete Cubs uniform.

Which Team USA gear are you hoping to see Toews wear? The 2016 jersey that the Americans rocked at the WJC? A 2007 jersey from the tournament where Toews scored three thrilling shootout goals to eliminate Team USA in the WJC semis? So many possibilities! I am excited.
