Luc Snuggerud out 3 weeks with upper-body injury

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman prospect Luc Snuggerud will miss roughly three weeks due to an upper-body injury, coach Joel Quenneville told reporters on Saturday afternoon.

Snuggerud, a 2014 fifth-round pick, looked pretty good in training camp and preseason action. An offensive defenseman by trade, he’s expected to be one of the Rockford IceHogs’ key contributors this season.

As a junior at Nebraska-Omaha, Snuggerud broke out with 11 goals and 31 points in 39 games, which helped convince the Blackhawks to sign him to a three-year entry-level contract. He played in 13 games with Rockford near the end of last season and recorded five points.

There’s not much opportunity for him at the NHL level right now with Gustav Forsling, Michal Kempny, and Jordan Oesterle among those competing for playing time on the left side, but Snuggerud has shown he’s got potential. Hopefully there’s no hiccup in his recovery, and we’ll get to see him racking up points in Rockford by late October.
