The Blackhawks traded defenseman Erik Gustafsson to the Flames for a 2020 third-round pick Monday prior to the NHL’s trade deadline. Chicago will receive the earlier of Calgary’s two third-round picks as the Flames also own the Edmonton’s pick in that round.
Gustafsson, who turns 28 on March 14, has 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 59 games this season after scoring a career-high 60 points (17 goals, 43 assists) in 79 games during his first full NHL season in 2018-19.
The Blackhawks hockey operations department made him a healthy scratch before warmups Friday then didn’t have him travel with the rest of the team for the team’s four-game road trip, which started Sunday in Dallas.
Colliton on Gustafsson: “More goals go in for the team than against when he’s on the ice.”
“People remember the plays he makes that end up in the back of the net against, but he’s also part of driving play and creating chances.”

Gustafsson had 116 points (28 goals, 88 assists) in 214 games with Chicago after he signed as a free agent in April 2015.
