Outdoor game all but official now

It looks like the outdoor game between the Blackhawks and Red Wings that has been rumored for a while is almost officially going to happen at this point, according to an article from the Detroit Free Press:

Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune in Minneapolis-St. Paul reports that the Red Wings will play the Blackhawks in the next NHL Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs.

“The outdoor game has been in the works for some time but finally approved last week when NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman met with the Blackhawks, Cubs and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley,” Russo writes.

Good to hear. I was very intrigued when the rumors of this first began, it seems like a really cool idea, something the Hawks would never have done 10-15 years ago, but John McDonough knows what kind of attention and good press this could bring to the Blackhawks and got the wheels in motion. This game is going to be one hot ticket whenever it happens, which I believe was supposed to be New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day when it was discussed before. It should be interesting to see the details come out on this game.
