Recap : Hawks Fall To Pens In Shootout...Again

Another meaningless preseason game capped off by another silly shootout, the third one in five preseason games for the Blackhawks. Regulation turned into the Bryan Bickell versus Kris Letang show. Bickell, one of the few regular Blackhawks in the lineup, scored twice in the 2nd period. Once on the penalty kill, from Brandon Pirri and Johnny Oduya, and again the power play assisted by Jeremy Morin and Michael Kostka.

Letang got the Penguins even with two goals of his own in the 3rd period, the first one being unassisted and the second coming on the power play. The Blackhawks out shot the Penguins 4 to 3 in the overtime but both goaltenders, Nikolai Khabibulin and Jeff Zatkoff, stood tall. Both James Neal and Sidney Crosby scored in the shootout while Zatkoff stopped shots by Bickell and Pirri.

Overall you have to be happy that a lineup that was pretty much Bickell and the IceHogs hung tough with a Penguins team made up of most their NHL roster. The Blackhawks will conclude the preseason Saturday night against the Washington Capitals, at the United Center, in a preview of the regular season opener.

No observations, because it is hard to observe something you did not see so here are you game stats for the night.
