We’ve got some Blackhawks hockey this evening, folks.
It’s of the preseason variety, so it’s not quite the main course, but it is a decent enough appetizer after waiting five months for any morsel to satiate our appetites. How much longer can we lean into this food metaphor? Longer than we should!
Anyway, the Blackhawks are in the Motor City to face the Detroit Red Wings. The general rule of preseason games is that the road teams typically send a B or C-team to these matchups while the home teams usually lean towards a lineup closer to what they may ice when the games start to matter for real.
The Blackhawks aren’t really following that M.O. this evening, though, as the lineup features Connor Bedard on the No. 1 line and plenty of top draft picks/prospects throughout. Frank Nazar is on the second line, flanked by Oliver Moore and Aidan Thompson. The blue line is also full of players who could very well be in Chicago this season, highlighted by Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel and Kevin Korchinski.

Arvid Soderblom is expected to handle the full game in net.
No word on line combos for Detroit, although their is a lineup that’s missing the two most familiar faces for Blackhawks fans but does include a former prospect who never quite found his footing in Chicago:
This Blackhawks season is going to be kid-heavy, and this evening’s roster is a heavy reminder of that. There are EIGHT first-round picks skating for Chicago in that group, including a trio of top-10 selections. The future is here, folks. Should make for more interesting viewing than we’ve had in quite some time.
And, just like we said before the first preseason game last year: there’s always the possibility of No. 98 doing something incredible to remind us all of the generational talent that he is.
Let’s go Hawks.
