Watch: Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews gets hit in the ear by Niklas Hjalmarsson’s shot

Chicago Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews found himself at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Toews skated in front of the net toward the puck by the boards only to have his teammate Niklas Hjalmarsson‘s clearing attempt hit him in the head in the second period against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

Toews left the ice and did not return in the middle frame.

Chicago’s captain wasn’t the only one to catch a bad break. Andrew Shaw and Trevor van Riemsdyk also exited the game with injuries. Shaw will not return for the rest of the game, the team announced. He tweaked his knee at 15 minutes, 35 seconds of the second.

Both Toews and TVR returned for the third period.
