Where should the Blackhawks focus in the 2009 NHL Draft?

The SBN Mock Draft is rolling along today with three more picks. In case you haven’t been paying attention, here’s a quick recap:

1. New York Islanders (Lighthouse Hockey) – John Tavares, London (OHL)
2. Tampa Bay Lightning (Raw Charge) – Victor Hedman, Modo (Swe)
3. Colorado Avalanche (Mile High Hockey) – Matt Duchene, Brampton (OHL)
4. Atlanta Thrashers (Bird Watchers Anonymous) – Evander Kane, Vancouver (WHL)
5. Los Angeles Kings (Battle of California) – Brayden Schenn, Brandon (WHL)
6. Phoenix Coyotes (Five For Howling) – Jared Cowen, Spokane (WHL)
7. Toronto Maple Leafs (Pension Plan Puppets)Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi (Swe)

8. Dallas Stars (Defending Big D) – Oliver Ekman-Larssen (Swe-2)

9. Ottawa Senators (Silver Seven) – Nazem Kadri (OHL)

Check Mirtle’s blog and the other hockey sites for more in depth coverage.

So barring any trades – the Blackhawks will have the 28th pick (nice to be drafting so low for a change, isn’t it?). The question now is, where should they focus?

The consensus seems to be that the Hawks will need to focus on Defensemen and Centers. Obviously the lack of depth in center was well documented this year with wingers like Sharp and Versteeg (who still hasn’t earned back his exclamation point from me) filling in after the Hawks were forced to trade away Robert Lang for salary cap reasons.

We’re about a week away for picking in the mock draft which also about the same time the Blackhawks will be picking in the real draft.

So where do you all think we should focus?  We’ll try to get some previews up of the players that might be available as the time gets closer.

What position should the Blackhawks focus on for the Draft?

Wingers 10
Centers 93
Defensemen 52
Goalie 19
