World Juniors: USA rolls to 10-1 win over Switzerland

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Schmaltz scored a goal and an assist in Team USA’s 10-1 win over Switzerland on Wednesday at Helsinki Ice Hall.

Timo Meier scored the lone goal for the Swiss (0-0-1-3) at the start of the second period.

Auston Matthews led the Americans with two goals and two assists. Matthew Tkachuck had two goals and an assist, while Christian Dvoark, a Palos, Ill. native, had an goal and assist. Team USA captain Zach Werenski, Sonny Milano and Colin White each had two assists.

Brandon Carlo and Ryan Danto scored a goal and Ryan Hitchcock and Brock Boeser each had an assist.

Schmaltz’s goal capped a 6-0 first period for the U.S that saw goals for six different players. Tkachuck and Matthews add their second goals before White and Donato rounded out the scoring in the second period.

The Americans (2-0-0-1) wrap up the preliminary round Thursday against Denmark (1-0-0-2).
