Blackhawks prospect Lucas Carlsson and Mathias From faceoff when Sweden plays Denmark.
Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mathias From and Denmark will face Lucas Carlsson and Sweden in the preliminary round opening game of the 2017 World Junior Championship against at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
From, who just turned 19 on Dec. 16, will play for Denmark. The 6-1, 187-pound winger has two goals and one assist in 26 games with Rögle BK in the SHL. In last year’s tournament, he tallied a goal and an assist in four games.
Carlsson has a goal and four assists for Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League in 19 games this season. The 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman has never played in the tournament. The Hawks drafted the left-handed blue liner with the No. 110 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Also in Group A, defending champions Finland play the Czech Republic. In Group B play, the United States draw Latvia in their opening game before Russia and Canada take the ice.
