World Juniors 2016: Dec. 28 schedule, TV, game thread

Three out of four isn’t bad as four Chicago Blackhawks prospects will be in action on Day 3 of the World Junior Championship.

The schedule begins with Radovan Bondra and Slovakia facing off against Czech Republic, who are coming off a 5-0 win over Denmark. Slovakia also won its opening game with a 4-2 victory over a pesky Belarus team.

Team USA and Nick Schmaltz look for their second victory against Sweden. The Americans won their opener 4-2 over rival Canada, while Sweden picked up a 8-3 win over the Swiss. Hawks prospect Gustav Forsling is expected to return after missing the opener, while William Nylander will be out recovering from a blindside hit in Saturday’s game. The winner will surely be the favorite to win the Group A.

The tournament shifts back to Group B as host Finland and Joni Tuulola face off against Russia, who needed a shootout to get past Czech Republic. Finland was only up 1-0 after two periods, but tacked on five more goals for a 6-0 win in its opener against Belarus.

The only game not featuring a Hawks prospect is Canada vs. Denmark. The Danes picked up their first regulation win in their tournament history. Mason McDonald will remain in net for Canada, while Mackenzie Blackwood serves the remainder of his suspension.
