2016 World Championships: 6 Blackhawks players advance to quarterfinals

The Chicago Blackhawks will be represented by six players in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 World Championships.

The players with Chicago ties are Christian Ehrhoff (Germany), Erik Gustafsson (Sweden), Vincent Hinostroza and Tyler Motte (USA), Artemi Panarin (Russia) and Ville Pokka (Finland).

Panarin leads all Chicago players in all three scoring categories: goals (5), assists (7) and points (12). He is one point back of Russian teammate Vadim Shipachyov for the tournament scoring lead.

Hinostroza is second among Chicago players with a goal and two assists. Gustafsson, Motte and Pokka each have two assists, while Ehrhoff scored his lone goal against the United States.

There is also Czech Republic defenseman Michal Kempny, who the Hawks are reportedly “very close” to signing. The 25-year-old blue liner has two assists in the tournament. In 59 games with Avangard Omsk of the KHL last season, Kempny recorded five goals and 16 assists.

Finland went undefeated in Group B play, and the Czech Republic won Group A with an overtime win over Russia. The Finns draw Denmark and feed into the winner of Russia vs. Germany on the bottom side of the bracket.

On the top side of the bracket, the Czechs play the United States, while Canada faces off against Sweden.
