2020 Stanley Cup playoffs exhibition games: July 28 open thread

The games may not count, but the NHL is back after a four month break.

The NHL returns to action Tuesday with three exhibition games prior to the League’s 24-team Return to Play tournament beginning Saturday. Teams are allowed to have 13 forwards and seven defensemen play in the exhibition game.

All three games Tuesday have a fun twist with being rivalry games like most of the exhibition matchups. The Penguins and Flyers (round-robin team) start things off at 3 p.m. in Toronto followed by the Maple Leafs and Canadiens at 7 p.m. The League then shifts to Edmonton, the Western Conference hub city, where the Oilers and Flames drop the puck at 9:30 p.m.

With the Blackhawks facing the Oilers in a Stanley Cup qualifier series, it’ll be interesting to see how Edmonton coach Dave Tippett lines up his team.
