Andrew Shaw Gets A Two Year Extension

The Blackhawks have announced this morning that Andrew Shaw has been given a two year contract extension. Shaw, who was set to become a restricted free agent at season’s end, is now under contract through the 2015-16 season. Shaw can be a pest on the ice but he has proven that he can produce at the NHL level. He is willing to get to the dirty areas of the ice and take a beating in order to score. He is also guilty of taking some really dumb penalties at times but those seem to come less regularly these days.

General Manager Stan Bowman was quite please to get this deal done, per his press release:

“It’s great to come to this agreement with Andrew and keep another important member of our team here in Chicago. Andrew has proven his ability to play a prominent role on our team and we look forward to watching him continue to grow as a player for the Blackhawks.”

The financial terms of this deal have not be disclosed but I can’t imagine it being for more than $3 million total.  Shaw is a key member of this team due to his ability to be physical and troll the opposing team.  Even though he pisses me off at times, I am glad to see him get an extension.  Not bad for a fifth round draft pick.
