Blackhawks announce 2018 training camp roster

The Chicago Blackhawks announced their 57-player roster Tuesday for their annual training camp, which begins Friday at MB Ice Arena in Chicago. It’s the first time the Blackhawks will open their training camp at the facility.

The roster includes 30 forwards, 20 defensemen and seven goaltenders.

Defenseman Brandon Davidson is the lone invitee on a professional tryout contract. The 27-year-old left-hander scored four goals with three assists last season in 51 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders. The 6-foot-2, 217-pounder has nine goals and 13 assists in 152 career NHL games.

Goaltender Corey Crawford is also listed as a camp participant despite the team not providing an official update on his health since he was sidelined with a head injury and vertigo-like symptoms last December. He had off-ice workouts in January and participated in morning skates the next month, but never returned to action. In July at the team’s annual fan convention, Crawford — in his first public appearance since the injury — said he wasn’t “100 percent yet.” Throughout the summer, members of the Hawks brass, including coach Joel Quenneville, said they expect Crawford to be ready for training camp.

Chicago will have four draft picks from its 2018 class attend camp: defensemen Adam Boqvist and Nicolas Beaudin (first round), forward Philipp Kurashev (fourth) and goaltender Alexis Gravel (sixth).

After the Hawks’ first day of camp, they’ll host their annual Training Camp Festival on Saturday at the United Center. A scrimmage will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 12:45 p.m. General admission for the event is $5.

The Hawks will have 15 practices before their regular season begins Oct. 4 at Ottawa.

Chicago has 12 practices open to the public at MB Ice Arena. Practices the day of preseason home games against the Detroit Red Wings (Sept. 25), Ottawa Senators (Sept. 27) and Columbus Blue Jackets (Sept. 29) will be at the United Center and closed to the public.

Morning practices the day of road preseason games are open to the public and are split into non-game and game players.
