Blackhawks’ Alex DeBrincat expected to play at 2019 World Championship, per report

Blackhawks winger Alex DeBrincat is expected to play for the United States men’s national team at the World Championship, reports Scott Powers of The Athletic.

DeBrincat tallied 41 goals and 76 points in his second NHL season. The 21-year-old’s 41 goals were second on the team to Patrick Kane.

It’ll be DeBrincat’s second straight World Championship appearance. He scored a goal and eight points last year as Team USA won bronze.

DeBrincat might not be the only Blackhawks player to suit up for the U.S. at the World Championship. Kane, winger Brandon Saad and defenseman Connor Murphy could also play. Kane and Murphy played on last year’s team as captain and alternate captain, respectively. Saad has already been invited to play but there’s no word if he’ll play.

Blackhawks centers Artem Anisimov (Russia) and Marcus Kruger (Sweden) have already been confirmed for the tournament.

This year’s World Championship is May 10-26 in Bartislava and Kosice, Slovakia.
