Blackhawks’ Andrew Shaw will not face further discipline for head-butt

Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw will not face further disciple for head-butting New York IslandersBrock Nelson during the second period of Tuesday’s game, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Wednesday.

Shaw was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the act. The league department deemed the penalties were sufficient punishment. There are no detailed ruling on fines and/or suspensions for head-butting in the league rulebook.

The feisty forward has two previous warnings and one suspension, a hit on Arizona Coyotes‘ goaltender Mike Smith during his career.

Blackhawks’ forward Joakim Nordstrom returned to the team from a two-game suspension Tuesday. Nordstrom was suspended for boarding Coyotes’ defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson last Thursday. Since then, Andrew Desjardins has filled his forward spot on the fourth line.

The Blackhawks drop the puck against the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden for the second half of a back-to-back.
