Back at the Madhouse on Madison for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Blackhawks improved their home record to 10-1 in the playoffs after their dramatic triple overtime win on Wednesday night. Both teams have enjoyed the extra day off in between the first two games, with neither team practicing on Thursday. Joel Quenneville ran the same lines in practice this morning as he used to finish off Game 1. When asked about the possibility of line juggling tonight he replied; “It was six periods, so we got a pretty good assessment of what they’re up to. We’ll see. I think we got a little bit more comfortable with our own line rotation as we were going along.”
The big news out of the Boston camp is that Nathan Horton will be back on the top line for the Bruins. Horton missed the majority of the three overtimes with an upper body injury. He has practiced the last two days and told the media that “I’m not in any pain. I feel good. Like I said, I’m ready to play. That’s it. I’m just excited to get going here.” Jaromir Jagr did not participate in practice this morning. When Boston coach Claude Julien was asked about his absence he replied smiling with “He’s 100%. He’s 41.”
Some interesting tidbits for tonight include teams winning Game 2 have gone on to win the Cup 55 of the 73 years since the Final has gone to a best of seven format. 8 of the last 10 Game 2 winners have won the Cup. The last team to lose Game 2 and go on to win the series was these Boston Bruins in 2011. The all time record, in Stanley Cup Final history, for the home team after sweeping Game 1 and 2 is 32-3. There has not been a split in the first two games of the Final since 2004 when the Flames and Lighting split the their games in Tampa Bay.
