Blackhawks’ Corey Crawford nominated for 2019 Masterton Trophy

Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford received the Chicago chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association nomination for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy on Thursday.

The Masterton Trophy is given annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Crawford missed 47 games last season after suffering a concussion in December 2017 then worked his way back to play by the sixth game of the 2018-19 season. He went 6-14-2 with a .903 save percentage and a 3.23 goals-against average before having another concussion in December.

After missing 28 games, Crawford returned Feb. 27 and has gone 7-4-1 with a 2.23 GAA, .925 save percentage and one shutout.

Bryan Berard (2003-04) and Pit Martin (1969-70) are the only two Chicago players to win the award. All 31 PHWA chapters nominate a player, and the winner is then voted on by the PHWA at large. The Masterton winner will be announced at the NHL Awards in June.
