Blackhawks’ David Kampf out 3-4 weeks with broken bone in right foot

David Kampf will miss three to four weeks after suffering a right foot injury during the Blackhawks’ 6-2 win Tuesday in Edmonton, the team announced Thursday. Scott Powers of The Athletic reports the injury is a small broken bone in his foot.

Kampf blocked one shot, had one hit and won 60 percent of his faceoffs in only 5:30 minutes of ice time across nine shifts in Chicago’s fifth straight win. He did not play after the first period and was the lone forward not to score a point in the game.

The 24-year-old center has settled into a third-line role in his second season since signing as an undrafted free agent out of the Czech Republic. He has three goals and 13 assists in 50 games this season.

With Kampf out, the Blackhawks will likely slide Artem Anisimov or Marcus Kruger slide into the middle on the third line and have the other center the fourth line.

Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said there are currently no plans to recall a player from the AHL and the team will have 12 forwards and seven defensemen.

The timetable for Kampf’s return is after the Feb. 25 NHL trade deadline, and could see him back as early as March 2 at Los Angeles.
