Brandon Bollig, who won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013, officially announced his retirement from professional hockey Wednesday night.
Bollig signed with the Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent after his sophomore season at St. Lawrence University in 2010. He spent the majority of four seasons with the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL, and appeared in four games in the Blackhawks’ first-round playoff series against the Coyotes.
Bollig made the Blackhawks’ lineup on a more permanent basis in 2013, and skated in five playoff games that spring en route to Chicago winning its second championship in three years.
In his first full NHL season, Bollig appeared in all 82 games for Chicago, scoring seven goals and 14 points in the 2013-14 campaign. Chicago traded him to the Flames in June 2014 in exchange for a 2014 third-round draft pick which turned out to be winger Matt Iacopelli. Bollig spent his final two seasons with Calgary before he signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks for the 2017-18 season, but didn’t receive a call up to the NHL and was traded to the Predators.
Bollig finished his NHL career with 13 goals, 14 assists and 467 penalty minutes in 276 games with Chicago and Calgary.
Bollig will participate in the USHL’s Chicago Steel’s Blackhawks Night on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Fox Valley Ice Arena in suburban Geneva. He will perform the ceremonial puck drop, and fans will have an opportunity to meet him and get autographs during the game.
