Desjardins, 28, was traded in exchange for Ben Smith and a conditional seventh-round pick to the San Jose Sharks in March. Desjardins was on a $750,000 expiring contract. He recorded two assists in 13 regular-season games and a goal and three assists in 21 postseason games as he won his first Stanley Cup.
Kruger, 25, scored 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 81 regular-season games and adde two goals and two assists in 23 postseason games in 2015. He is a member of both the 2013 and 2015 Cup-winning teams.
Saad and Kruger both said they want to work something out, but expect the next weeks to be interesting.
