Blackhawks not interested in Russian free agent Sergei Shumakov, per report

The Chicago Blackhawks are not among the NHL teams interested in signing Russian free agent forward Sergei Shumakov, his agent, Shumi Babaev, tells Scott Powers of The Athletic.

Shumakov, who turns 26 years old on Sept. 2, finished in the top 20 in scoring in the KHL last season with CSKA Moscow with 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) in 47 games. The right-hander joined CSKA after tallying 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) in 54 contests with Sibir Novosibirsk with Blackhawks prospect Maxim Shalunov. Babaev also represents Shalunov.

CSKA terminated Shumakov’s contract earlier this week after he didn’t show up to training camp, according to Russian reporter Igor Eronko of Sport-Express. Shumakov had two years left on his contract.

Shumakov has been linked to the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers, but Babaev told Sports-Express that his client has not signed a one-year contract with the defending Stanley Cup champions.
