Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane to compete in puck control relay at NHL All-Star skills competition
The star winger will compete against seven players for $25,000.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane will compete in the puck control relay in the NHL All-Star skills competition Saturday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Kane, 29, leads Chicago in all three scoring categories with 20 goals, 29 assists and 49 points in 49 games this season. He is the Hawks lone All-Star representative.
The puck control relay features three different obstacles for players to navigate through.
The first is stick-handling, where a player controls a puck through a series of eight pucks in a straight line. After completing this stage, a player will navigate through a series of eight cones in a zig-zag formation then finish the event by guiding the puck through a gate. The fastest time wins.
Kane will be competing for $25,000 against seven other players: Johnny Gaudreau (Calgary Flames), Aleksander Barkov (Florida Panthers), Erik Karlsson (Ottawa Senators), John Tavares (New York Islanders), Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Tyler Seguin (Dallas Stars).
The seven-time All-Star Kane will also be in action during the save streak challenge against Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers) and Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay Lightning). Each player from each division will shoot, with the team captain going last as the goalies try to make the most consecutive saves on a minimum of nine shootout attempts. A round must end with a goal, so if the captain’s shot is saved the players will cycle through again until a goal is scored to end the round.
