Blackhawks Patrick Kane named NHL’s No. 3 star for December

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane was named the NHL’s No. 3 star for the month of December, the league announced Monday.

Calgary Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau and Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby were named the No. 1 and No. 2 stars of the month, respectively. It is the second straight month that Holtby and Kane have been named stars of the month.

Kane, 27, led all skaters with 19 points during December and continues to lead the league in scoring with 23 goals, 57 points and 12 power-play goals. He extended his franchise setting point streak 26 games (16 goals and 24 assists) before he was shut out against the Colorado Avalanche. He scored at least one point in 12 of his 15 games, and has tallied at least a point in 35 of 40 games this season.

Kane is on pace for 48 goals this season. Tony Amonte was the last Hawks player to score 40 in 1999-2000. Jeremy Roenick was the last to score 50 in 1992-93.
