Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane named NHL’s second star for December

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane has been named the National Hockey League’s Second Star for the month of December, the club and league announced Friday. Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf was named December’s first star, while Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was the third star.

Kane registered 17 points with eight goals and nine assists in 13 games during the month. He scored in 10 games, including a six-game point streak from Dec. 11-21. During that span, he had a pair of game-winning goals against the at Boston Bruins on Dec. 11 and the Minnesota Wild on Dec. 16. He has five game-winning goals this season, tying him for the league lead.

Kane recorded four multi-point outings, including three-point games on Dec. 16 (Wild), Dec. 21 (Maple Leafs) and Dec. 27 (at Avalanche). His performance helped lead the Blackhawks to a 10-2-1 record during the month. The 26-year-old’s 41 points this season are tied for fifth and his 18 goals ranks him sixth.

This is the third monthly honor in Kane’s career. He was named the first star for the months of November and December in 2013. Kane scored 19 points (9G, 10A) in that November and 23 points (7G, 16A) in December.
