Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane is making his presence felt in a big way at his first World Championship in 10 years.
Kane, 29, scored a goal and an assist in Team USA’s 6-2 loss to Finland on Tuesday to set the U.S. record for both points (17) and assists (11) in a single men’s World Championship.
It was the first loss in the tournament for the U.S., who will play the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Kane, who is serving as Team USA’s captain, is tied with Carolina Hurricanes winger Sebastian Aho of Finland for the tournament lead in points. Aho scored a hat trick to power Finland to its victory over the U.S.
The Buffalo, New York native Kane has 12 goals and 26 assists in 29 career games for Team USA. He previously played for the U.S. at the 2008 Worlds, 2010 and ‘2014 Winter Olympics and 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
